Grow Your Own Microgreens
Grow Your Own Microgreens
Another business that caught our eye at Pub in the Park was Simply Grow who provide growing kits and organic seeds for microgreens. At TGFC we often use microgreens in our catering and were inspired by how easy it was to grow microgreens at home and at such low cost.
The term “micro herbs” describes any type of herb that is grown as a microgreen. They are rich in potassium, iron, zinc, magnesium & copper. And are a good source of antioxidants which is great. They have up to 40 x the nutrients of normal vegetables. And the best news is that they only take a few days to grow and are easy to do at home.
At TGFC we use a lot of microgreens to garnish dishes as they add flavour, texture & colour. At home the best uses are in salads. In a Buddha Bowl, layering with Black Rice, Flageolet Beans, Sugar Snaps, Corn, Avocado, Mango, Chilli Beetroot & by adding Pea Tendrils you will give the dish a burst of flavour.
As a topping to dishes - add micro basil to a margarita pizza or micro coriander to sushi. Also can be added to soups & sauces like Roasted Broccoli with Sunflower Shoots. Remember they add intense aromatic flavour so you don’t need to use too much.
